Our online Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction provides you with the opportunity to focus on the development and implementation of curriculum and instruction in either elementary or secondary classrooms. To prepare you to take your career to the next level, Western New England University has developed an online degree program that focuses on a unique blend of curriculum and instruction that responds to the renewed national interest in research and best practices, explores current research on strategies that increase achievement in all students, and teaches students to design lesson plans and effectively evaluate curriculum. The online Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction is designed to enhance teachers’ knowledge and skills with the goal of preparing educational leaders of the future. The program design uses best practices of online learning such as building a virtual learning community, active learning, both formative and summative assessments, a variety of assignments, and varied formats for sharing course content. Course topics include principles of differentiating instruction, multicultural education, literacy strategies for struggling readers, and adolescent literacy. Admissions Requirements Admissions Requirements Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in a field related to education with an overall undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.8 (4.0 scale). Previous teaching, administrative, or experience in other educational roles is desired but is not required. Admissions Process How are Courses Offered? How are Courses Offered? Course Delivery: Online Total Credits: 30 Courses are delivered exclusively online via KODIAK, Western New England University’s online learning management system. Through this online classroom you will be able to view lectures, complete and submit assignments, participate in discussions with classmates, and communicate directly with your professors. This online learning model allows you to complete classwork on your own time, wherever you are. The program is a part-time graduate program with courses offered in 11-week terms. Two courses are offered each fall, winter, spring, and summer term. All coursework is conducted online. The program requires the completion of 10 courses, and by taking two courses per term, your degree can take as little as 15 months to complete. Kodiak for Students Faculty Faculty The Department of Education is composed of faculty members who have broad experience in classroom teaching. They bring great expertise to the task of guiding established teachers in their professional development. Our emphasis is on building personal relationships, addressing individual needs, and helping teachers attain a higher level of performance in their work. You’ll be taught in small, interactive classes by experienced professors who take a personal interest in your progress. All full-time faculty members in the program have doctoral degrees and impressive academic credentials. They also have significant on-the-job experience as teachers in public and private schools.
